Scarpetta Prosecco 2015
This wine has a great story. The short version is that two Americans became obsessed with the Italian region of Friuli and decided to start their own quality wine label based on incredible fruit from the region.
The long version is this: After working together at The French Laundry, Bobby Stuckey as a Master Sommelier and Lachlan Patterson as a chef de partie, the two moved to Boulder Colorado to open a restaurant of their own. Yet a fateful trip to the Alpine region of Friuli colored their dream with new light, inspiring them to focus their restaurant entirely on the wine, food and culture of that region. Bobby and Lachlan keep the dream and authenticity alive by traveling to the region several times a year, and have even been known to take their entire staff along for the ride. When the dream evolved further into owning a wine label, Bobby and Lachlan of course looked first to the beautiful whites of Friuli, and hence Scarpetta was born.
Scarpetta Prosecco is sourced entirely from Valdobiedenne, one of the three superior villages for Prosecco production. The grapes were fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a fresh light, straw colored sparkling wine. Floral-accented peach and stone fruit aromas are complemented by notes of ripe melon and white flowers. On the palate, the wine shows lemon and green apple flavors with zingy acid. The palate extends nicely with a drier than expected finish.
