Luca Pinot Noir Mendoza 2011
Grown in the prestigious, high altitude region of Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, the grapes for this wine come from 18 year old vines that were hand harvested for the ultimate preservation of quality and fruit selection.
Aged for 12 months in 30% new & 70% second use French oak barrels, this is a big and sultry Pinot Noir with elegance and freshness preserved by the vineyard's high altitude. This wine has a garnet hue with notes and flavors of strawberries, leather, cola, spice, and red berries. Makes a lovely pairing with lamb chops, grilled salmon, roasted duck or chicken.
Laura Catena is a legend in Argentina, and Luca is her personal project that allows her to focus on quality and experimentation over economics. She was the first to do many things in Argentine winemaking in the 1990s, like plant high elevation vineyards, contract with small growers to ensure quality, and plant unique varietals. Today, she continues to be a trailblazer in Mendoza with microbial/phenolic studies, discovering new terroirs, and planting at even higher altitudes.
