Cruse Syrah Sonoma Valley Charles Heintz Vineyard 2014
This 2014 Syrah is from Charles Heintz Vineyard, a cool site near the coast in western Sonoma County. This vineyard is famous for Chardonnay, but it is also capable of producing exceptional cool climate Syrah.
Fruit for this wine was fermented whole cluster, with punch downs carried out by foot. The wine was gently pressed after 14 days of contact with skins and then moved to age in concrete eggs. The wine was bottled without the addition of any sulfur or additives.
The resulting wine is extremely floral and is a clean expression of the Charles Heintz Vineyard. With fresh tannins, bright acidity, and no oak distraction, black pepper, dark fruits, black currants and violets shine through.
